Zone Alarm - stops IE connection,Help please!!?

Have just installed broadband and Zone Alarm firewall (the best!) but can only connect through IE if ZA disabled. A bit 'Catch 22'. It seems I need to set or reset something but don't know what/where. I've disabled Windows Firewall - so that's not sticking its nose where it's not wanted. I'd be very grateful for any suggestions.

Hello,

(ANS) I have been using ZA for many years %26amp; its an excellent product. OK!, so in order to solve the problem with Internet explorer. You need to give the file IE.exe permission for "outbound connections" i.e internet access from your machine, %26amp; also "inbound connections" from the internet to your machine, %26amp; for the program to "act as a server". You enable these "permissions" in ZA's settings by opening ZA and going to your program listing or program settings (depending upon which version you have) make sure IE has green ticks against each option inbound, outbound or local %26amp; internet, %26amp; act as server.

**Once you have done the above IE should function normally, think of it like a glass window allowing IE through the pane of glass but blocking everything else you don't want. Every other shade of light doesn't pass through the glass window.

**ZA acts as a shield, %26amp; will log all other attempts to compromise your computer but keep you safe allowing only the connections you want or need. It gives you control over the programs that can %26amp; cannot have access.

**ZA uses state packet inspection as its method, SPI is a very robust technique and is used in many well known %26amp; respected routers %26amp; firewall products. SPI is becoming the standard methodology used in relation to ADSL (broadband) connections.

Add IE to your list of trusted sites on ZA
there should be an 'Exceptions' option in ZA - in there you can list applications which are allowed access. Add iexplore.exe, from the 'Program Files\Internet Explorer' folder.
zone alarm is crap. you should go for the open sourse firewalls and stuff there the greatest ^_^ just uninstall that ****.
Double click the Zone Alarm Icon at the bottom right - when it opens find the programmes option - find Internet Explorer and right click and choose ALLOW
You have your firewall settings set too high, you can go back into the options and set it a bit lower until you load your home page
-double click on the ZA icon in the taskbar

-click on Program control

-Locate Internet Ex. under programs list

-Under Access, see if there is a Green Check Mark in front of IE

If not, left click on the ICON (either a blue question mark, or a red cross) , the list of three ICONS appears, select the Green Check Mark

This way you can allow IE access through ZA
on ZA there is a tab for Firewall settings.

Sounds like you are on maximum protection (no traffic at all).

there is also a padlock on the screen, if the padlock is locked it will stop all activity, right click on the ZA icon in the bottom right to open the padlock.

best of luck
Since you're obviously runnin XP, so long as you are at SP2 level of updates then why are you using Zonealarm anyway?

I would remove ZA and re-enable Windows firewall from SP2 onwards it does a good job.
Unblock it or remove it from u r pc and install a new antivirus.
