Default page changed automatically to protectionways.com?microsoft windows xp

protectionways.com is dangerous hijacker and comes from very dangerous trojan zlob. It hijack your homepage and displays fake warning message to download the another fake spyware applications... If your computer is infected by protectionways.com hijacker then it is very dangerous for your computer.

http:// protectionways.com Symptoms:-

User's homepage is changed to protectionways.com or to other unfamiliar websites. Warning messages such as "Virus Alert", "Your Computer is Infected", "Security Alert" Trojan-Spy.win32@mx or Spyware.Cyberlog-X infections are displayed.

I got all the information about this spyware from the below link and there you can also remove it by using the manual and automatic process..

Default page changed automatically to protectionways.com?ie 7 internet explorer

You can change your homepage back to whatever you had it set for. When you open IE, goto Tools and select Internet Options. Type in the name of the webpage you IE to open when you use the browser, such as www.yahoo.com. Select OK and close the browser. When you use IE again, the homepage should be reset to the page you selected.
Same problem, even changing homepage back it reverts to protectionways.com. Dont know much of computors, but tried to do a system restore but restore wont come up, and tried to remove program but dont see anything should remove. ??????
Look carefully at your Add-Ons (go to Tools, Manage Add-Ons) and disable the ones that you don't recognize as being legitimate. I disabled a few at once so I can't tell you exactly which one worked for me - it may have been a .dll, but I can't be sure. Good luck!
****, I got exactly same problem . I try every ways i know but no use. It drives me crazy. Plz help
This is a Trojan. To remove it go to your tools menu, Select manage add-ons, then select enable and disable add-ons.

Disable "ifsmdl.dll" and you will be able to reset your start page back to what ever you want.
I had the same problem. This answer had the solution.
you simply have a browser hijacker.. your browser is Internet explorer as you stated. There are many exploits in IE but many security "fixes you can do to help this out and one is do all your windows updates. Best thing to do is set your computer to auto updates if it isnt already. You can do this easily by right clicking on my computer icon on your desktop and clicking on properties, then clicking on the auto updates tab, it already has a preset time by default, but you can change this if you like. After you do this hit apply and ok. One more thing to do is go to Start on your desktop, hit run and type this exactly, msconfig..it will bring you to a box, hit the last tab, this box is called system configuration utility. This is showing you all the programs that are starting up when up restart your computer, which are the ones by your clock.. so many people have 10 or more programs running and these programs are not being used. Basically the only ones needed are your firewall,( if you dont have a router), and your antivirus, and also if you have a spyware program that runs in "real-time.. and you would know.. which means it is always protecting you from spyware. You can easily hover your mouse over the programs by your clock and if you know these programs are never used all the time uncheck them in the startup configuration utility..you are using resources u dont need to load at a reboot. For instance, if you have Limewire, uncheck that because you dont always use limewire constantly, when you are ready to use limewire just click on limewires icon after you do all this it will ask you to exit and reboot now or later ..reboot now . If when you hover it says "drivers leave these, if you arent sure.. leave those checked...just jot down the ones checked if need be. Dont forget to now go to your home page and under tools, look under homepage, if it is not what you have your homepage set to..change it to what you want..hit apply and ok..never set about.com as your homepage..
I'm using IE 6.0, I open Tools menu in my IE, can't find Manage Add-Ons. Am I @ wrong place? Please let me know where can I find the Manage Add-Ons

I also have the Video Add-on folder under Program Files, but I cannot delete the folder because it says isfmdl.dll is in used...

Thanx in advance for all your help
here are removal instructions for that scum
Your computer is infected with a nasty trojan called Zlob. Zlob hijacks your homepage to one of many sites including protectionways.com and then generates warning messages to try and get you to buy fake programs such as AntiVirGear, VirusProtect, SpyLocked, SpyHeal, System Doctor, Dr. Antispy, AntiSpyware Shield, Security Toolbar and others. Of course it is important to remove protectionways.com, but it鈥檚 just as important to also remove the Zlob Trojan that implanted it there. In my experience, a program called SpyNoMore is your best bet for removing the Zlob trojan. By removing this trojan, you will also get rid of protectionways.com, VirusProtect and all the nastiness that came with them. Another symptom of Zlob Trojan is that it generates fake warning messages like:

System Alert

Critical System Error

System Performance monitor warning

Security Alert: NetWorm-i.Virus@fp

System Alert: Trojan-Spy.Win32@mx

Security Warning: SpyBot@MXt trojan

W32.Myzor.FK@yf
