Is it safe to mov IE and just have firefox on puter i am running XP?

as i have had spyware and viruses with IE

Is it safe to mov IE and just have firefox on puter i am running XP?microsoft live

I don't see why it wouldn't be safe. I have both installed, however, because every once in awhile, I come across a "dinosaur" website that is only set up for IE and I can't access or use it with Firefox. However, I never open it unless I absolutely have to. It just sits dormant....taking up RAM.

If you can live without needing it occasionally, I don't think will effect anything. As long as you have a browser of some sort to use.

Is it safe to mov IE and just have firefox on puter i am running XP?microsoft internet explorer internet explorer

yes it's safe
IE is an integral part of Windows. It can't just be removed.

But you can set things up so that Firefox is your default browser and try as best as you can to just forget about Internet Explorer.
It's fine but IE is more compatable with different things, including music videos, but it is not a needed program.
You cant remove internet explorer but you can set firefox as the default browser. You will still need IE because there are some sites which will only work with IE.
yes, it won't harm your computer.
Got nothing to do with IE it is the way you have set it and if you keep on letting all sorts of people give you cookies and you download idiscretly nothing is stopping Viruses as for spyware just remove it also check your spyware how dangerous is it if it is benine leave it.As for Viruses get a Virus programme that stops them not let them in.Firefox will not make it better.

Take care!
I once was asking the same question to myself. In the meantime, I made the experience, that sometimes you may be glad to have both systems rready and at hand. Things are permanently changing and it is unpredictable, what kinds of attacks will hit which system more.
You cannot remove IE, only shortcuts to it. You can and should make Firefox the default browser.
IE is useful at microsoft.com if you need to do manual updates. Surprise!!! that website does not work well with Firefox. There is a Firefox extension that lets you view a page as if you are usiing IE, but I have not tried it on microsoft.com - works ok on others howerver.
I use Internet explorer and I have never had any problems. But of course I am fully updated.
hi, but you cannot remove ie .

firefox is much smaller than IE, so i run faster than IE.

How do I keep the IE Defender popup from occuring?

How To Remove Ie Defender (removal Instructions)

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t...

The IE Defender infection is a Browser Helper Object installed in your Internet Explorer browser that hijacks searches you input into the Google and Yahoo search engines. These hijacked searches will state that you are infected and that you need to install the IE Defender rogue anti-spyware program. You will also receive popups that state you are infected when browsing the web. The reality is that all of these messages and alerts are fake and should be ignored.

Download free McAfee siteAdvisor:

How do I keep the IE Defender popup from occuring?windows vista ultimate internet explorer

I have the same problem I cant figure out what to do about it.
IEDefender is an extremely dangerous rogue software created by programmers from Russia. It may be installed manually (from www.iedefender.com) or using security holes. Once the IEDefender is installed, it will start showing fake security messages that your system is in danger and will trick you into buying its full version. IEDefender may steal your secret information (passwords, credit card numbers, PayPal accounts). IEDefenders work may damage Windows registry and cause system slowdowns and crashes. It may be difficult to remove IEDefender manually because it loads on every Windows startup and has an ability to renew itself if you try to remove it.

Wiping your computer clean is NOT the solution.

Asking /paying someone else to fix the problem is NOT the solution .

TAKE A STAND NOW!

IT's YOUR COMPUTER !!
Yes. You have been infected with IE Defender. Do NOT pay attention to any of the pop-ups and alerts your computer is displaying right now. IE Defender is a rogue anti-spyware application that displays exaggerated security alerts difficult to close in an attempt to trick you into purchasing the full IEDefender version.

Your web browser is hijacked, error messages will appear when doing a search, stating that you鈥檙e infected with spyware and that you need to download IEDefender to solve your problem. This is not true. IE Defender is just trying to trick you into purchasing the full version of the program. If you click on the IE Defender fake message, you鈥檒l be directed to IE Defender鈥檚 homepage.

I suggest you get rid of IE Defender before more damages occur. Try a free removal tool first, like SmitfraudFix, if this doesn't work, then try a paid one.

I just figured out that ie stores all your passwords and personal info in a file is this legal?

i just found out that Internet explore stores all my passwords and history in a file called index.dat and their is no way to erase this data even if you tell it to delete your history and everything. I think this is ridiculous because it makes it easy for any one to get your private info from this log. i have passwords to my stock and bank account sites that i dont want any one to have. is this really legal for microsoft to do. i am pissed what can i do and what are your opinions about this. This just makes it easier for hackers and shows how insecure microsoft really is. I knew that ie was insecure the second i realized it is embeded in the os and you can uninstall it like all other apps. so tell me what your oppinions are on this and if any one knows how to disable this tell me please.

I just figured out that ie stores all your passwords and personal info in a file is this legal?windows xp pro

if microsoft created that file...you can probably be assured it is safe...but if you dont want ie to store everything...use Mozilla Firefox...in my opinion it is the best web browser on the face of the earth...and it asks you if you want to store your passwords and history...and if you dont...it wont record em...if your interested...visit

http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/

I just figured out that ie stores all your passwords and personal info in a file is this legal?microsoft net framework internet explorer

It's perfectly legal because it's completely optional if you want IE to do this or not.

You can delete that data by deleting the file it's stored in, and you can turn off this option by going into Internet Options, Content, Personal Information, Autocomplete...

Microsoft is not storing this information on their database, it's stored on YOUR computer, for YOUR usage.

Is foxfire really better then IE?

i dont trust it. IE has served me well, is the standard package, and i have had no problems. y complicate things with an orange icon, different setups, and so called benefits?

Is foxfire really better then IE?microsoft templates

i think its better

Is foxfire really better then IE?windows firewall internet explorer

that's mozilla FIRE FOX, not foxfire, and it is a heck of a lot better... it never freezes up, ever!
Yes. Firefox has all of the same features as IE but they're categorized better which gives it a cleaner appearance.
Well firefox is much better than IE.
yes ive loved it ever since i got the "stumble" button
it's not much better and you have to have a lot of extra downloads

btw it's firefox
Yep Im using it now.
i like it alot better because i feel like i have a safer connection and i get less pop ups.
I like it better, I like the "tab" option.
Much better! I also use Opera. I haven't used IE in years.
dont be a tool, firefox is way faster and doesn't load your computer with viruses or spyware..
i don't think it's really better, but i do use it. can have multiple tabs and pages open at the same time. but other than that not much different than ie in my opinion.
If you have all the microsoft updates IE works very well. I do not use firefox. But that is my choice.
firefox is 10 times better the IE could ever be, and you are able to delete everything after you are finished browsing, without any problems
heck yeah. it's SO much better. I don't get all the viruses. Every time I open up IE, I get tons of viruses. I've had it for over a year, and haven't had any problems.
Yeah, I like it a lot. Never had any problems with it. It comes with a lot of extra features that make things easier.
Fire fox is more secure than IE because IE allows instllation of activeX controls by default, meaning that you are screwed if a page has a malicious activeX control. Also, there are more tools for Firefox than IE because IE is a security hole disguised as a program.
No, I tried using it for a few days, and I didn't like it. I switched back to IE.
It's my favorite %26amp; I've tried them all.
Firefox is a much better browser. It's quicker, more stable, and is more secure. It's worth downloading for the tabbed browsing alone.

Plus another thing that makes Firefox better is it's extension model. If you want your web browser to do something, say have your media player controls in the bottom, someone has written an extension for it.

I recommend Firefox to everyone, and you will be glad if you make the switch. It's free so there is no risk, it's not like you can't still use IE if you want.
I think it depends on the User, Mozilla FoxFire allows some things to operate more smothly if you didnt have your IE browser set up correctly. But I perfer IE, have never had any problems with it. %26amp; refuse to let Mozilla FoxFire even be installed on my computer.
Get the new IE! It's got tabs like firefox, and is the ****.
Although you may not trust it, Firefox is a lot more secure and better than IE at blocking unwanted scripts which may cause unwanted and harmful files to be downloaded on your computer. Additionally firefox is faster (through optimized code) and a lot easier to use than IE.

If you get firefox, make sure you get the "NoScript" plugin which will make it even more secure for browsing and keeping your computer virus free (which IE, frankly, sucks at).
If you are useing IE and dont have any problems with it, dont fix something thats not broke
Well if you don't trust it than you shouldn't do it. But I use Firefox and I love it. One word.....tabs.
Then why are you asking if you do not trust it? Keep using your IE. Fire fox works better on a MAC.
You'll have to download some plug-ins right off the bat with Firefox. All in all, it's just a matter of preference. Firefox does seem to be a little more stable, but I've run into a few sites that it's not as compatible with, as IE. I'm a Mac user who happens to work in a PC world. I use Firefox at work, but that's only because my company's version of IE doesn't have tabbed browsing. If you're comfortable with IE, and it works for you -- that's all you need.
i like firefox, you can press open new webpages inside tabs instead of new windows, that will stop cluttering up your taskbar.

the popup blocker is simplier to use, adn more effective. and the web settings, controls, options are all simplified into one menu. oh yeah, the upper right hand corner search box is very handy. you don't need to type in google.com, all you have to do is type in your search term, click enter, and firfox goes to google.com to search. you can add yahoo search engines and other engines to that box as options if you want.

there's more to firefox.
firefox really better then ie try it

heres the beta version

Perhaps you are the same person who did trust MS when they claimed IE does not make it easy for viruses, or spyware, or idiots to write the dozen or so sites that require IE.

Trust who you will..

I say, Anything but IE!
it has less possible virus attack for sure.most virus aim at ie.

Can I install a password on Internet Explorer (IE) to restrict access from children in the house?

I have young teenagers in the house. We have AOL, but they have figured out that if they go to IE they can get around parental controls. Can I establish a password to restrict access to IE. We have a windows password required at start-up. But turning the computer on is a 8-10 minute task. Thanks

Can I install a password on Internet Explorer (IE) to restrict access from children in the house?nintendo ds browser

u can make 2 users on your pc. 1 for u (with pass) and 1 for ur teenagers with out pass. what u do is disable IE on their user so they can't use that software. make sure that ur user (i guess u can call it account) is the admin -- full control of ur PC and ur kid's account is guest or limited access.

Can I install a password on Internet Explorer (IE) to restrict access from children in the house?windows 98 internet explorer

It is called discipline.

Too many parents nowadays rely on a software to raise their kids.

The solution is easy. If the kids ever use IE again then the computer is off-limits for them for a month. Period. No negotiation.

And don't let them con you that they NEED the computer for schoolwork. 99% of that "schoolwork" is spent on the instant messenger or MySpace.

How to import Cookies from IE to Safari on the Mac?

I am moving over to the Mac and want to be able to import the Cookies from IE on Windows to Safari on the Mac. I have been able to export a text file, but don't see a way to import from Safari these Cookies. Cookies on the Mac are these .plist files and are in a different format. Is there a utility on the Mac that takes these exports Cookie text files from Windows and imports them into the Mac so they can be used in Safari (or Firefox on the Mac)?

How to import Cookies from IE to Safari on the Mac?windows xp professional

I know you can import your bookmarks and favorites to Safari from IE, but I'm not sure about individual cookies. The first time you use Safari it's supposed to prompt you if you want to import from other browsers.

http://www.wellesley.edu/Computing/Safar...

http://www.lowendmac.com/misc/04/0409.ht...

From a security standpoint I'm not fond of importing cookies (the kind that contain credit card info, account numbers, etc.) if it requires different file formats and a conversion media. Too much of a risk that something gets compromised during the conversion and sensitive data gets into the wrong hands. But you might contact tech support at Apple to see what they suggest.

How to get rid of IE Virus?

So I've been convinced that my codec was " outdated " next thing you know, I believe i have an IE virus working it's way through my labtop's harddrives and memories. Can someone please tell me how to get rid of it ASAP. It has only been like 8 minutes since the virus has been in effect.

How to get rid of IE Virus?download ie

You probably caught this infection by attempting to watch a video at some website. The site said you "needed" a codec or a phony Active-X control so then you downloaded it to watch the video. This was actually a ruse. A scam if you will. It was not a codec at all. (The video would have played fine without that "Codec")! What you actually downloaded was a Trojan called "Zlob".

DO NOT DOWNLOAD ANYTHING ELSE THAT IT WANTS YOU TO...IT WILL ONLY INFECT YOUR COMPUTER MORE! IT IS A SCAM.

This trojan then "phoned home" and installed the popup saying "system alert" adware on your computer with out your knowledge.

Sorry dude, but you was conned.

Your computer very likely has a Smitfraud infection now, which is a very difficult one to remove. Most "all-purpose" anti-virus and anti-spyware programs (such as have been recommended to you) can only remove the original Trojan Zlob which caused the infection and not the infection itself.

This Smitfraud infection usually requires a specialized removal procedure and removal tools. Here is a link for information and free removal software:

http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix...

Another free removal tool for you to try. This one is call RogueFix. Tool and full infomation are here:

http://www.internetinspiration.co.uk/rog...

After running SmitfraudFix or RogueFix, I strongly suggest to clean-up any infection traces that may remain...scan for trojans, adware, cookies, and spyware and remove (free online scan, no downloaded program) with Ewido Online Scanner ( now known as AVG Anti-Spyware). This is NOT the same as AVG Anti-Virus. Press "Scan your computer now online and clean it for free!" on the left.

http://www.ewido.net/en/

One should never allow any website download anything to you unless you 1000% know and trust the web-site and you know exactly what you are downloading. Such downloads are almost anyways malware.

Good luck!

How do I fix it so that my IE doesn't quit responding?

My IE keeps not responding, when that happens I have to end task in order to close it %26amp; then restart the computer in order to get it to even load again. Haha.

Or you can uninstall/reinstall IE. Just go ahead and go into Add/Remove %26amp; Repair. It strips it done to a baser version and you can redownload IE 7, if you wish.

How do I fix it so that my IE doesn't quit responding?microsoft office internet explorer

The easiest way to fix this is to not use IE. It has many problems (as you've obviously discovered), is not very secure, and over all not so user friendly. Try Firefox, you will have far fewer issues. It also has better security features, is fabulously user friendly, and all around just rocks.
u should use new browser like Mozzila firefox (best browser atm)

it never "not responding" and have a fast webs loading u should try it

download it from www.download.com (thats not a commercial)

In Vista, flushing the DNS cache, or even renewing the IP address, through the command prompt requires using a special command prompt. Why this is, I have no clue; it doesn't seem to make a great deal of sense even from a security standpoint, since you don't have to have administrative access to do so.

Click on the start orb. Then look for and click on All Programs. You need to look for Accessories, where you should find a listing for Command Prompt. Choose that one. Then you should be able to flush the DNS with the following commands:

ipconfig /flushdns and ipconfig /registerdns

If Vista refuses to recognize these, remove the space before the slash; we are getting some conflicting reports at the ISP where I do tech support whether the space is needed. If it still refuses to recognize them, call your PC maker for further assistance.

You can use the same command prompt to release/renew your IP address if needed. Those commands are:

ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew

Same comments about the space.

Hope this is useful for you. If not, consult your service provider's tech support dept to help you identify the problem further, or talk to the PC maker.

Microsoft keep playing dirty tricks because IE is their browser and more tweak towards Microsoft Live and msn website (to make it popular) and not following web browser standard followed by everyone.. It create lot of problems when visiting other web sites until those web people complain, then microsoft correct those problem. So either use firefox or wait for some days for microsoft to correct that problem.

Have you heard of parkin? ie the dessert?

i was trying to explain to boyfriend last night what parkin is, ie the bonfire night dessert, we used to have it at school dinners with custard (yummy). he said that hes been alive for 37 years and has never heard of it... he reckons i'm making it up... please tell me if you've heard of it too...

Have you heard of parkin? ie the dessert?microsoft access internet explorer

Parkin is very popular in the North of England, Blackpool Lancaster sort of way. It is like a ginger cake and is very often served as a dessert with icecream or custard. It 's lovely.
It does exist Gina, its really popular up here in yorkshire.
Parkin is like a ginger cake and is tradionally eaten on bonfire night. Here is a recipe if you fancy making it yourself

.225g (8oz) Plain Flour

225g (8oz) Medium Oatmeal

110g (4oz) Lard or Margarine

110g (4oz) Golden Syrup

110g (4oz) Black Treacle

110g 4oz Sugar

1 Egg, beaten

4 tsp Ground Ginger

1 tsp Ground Cinnamon (optional)

1 tsp Bicarbonate of Soda

Pinch Salt

Pre-heat oven to 170掳C: 325掳F: Gas 3.

Grease and line a square baking tin with buttered greaseproof paper.

Sieve the flour, bicarbonate of soda, ginger, salt and cinnamon (if used).

Add the oats and sugar, mix lightly.

Gently rub in the lard or margarine.

Stir in the beaten egg.

Gently warm the syrup and treacle, so that they can be easily poured.

Make a well in the centre of the mixture and add the syrup and treacle.

Mix thoroughly.

Pour the mixture into the prepared baking tin.

Bake for 45-60 minutes or until firm and cooked.

Allow to cool for at 15-20 minutes before removing from the tin.

Cut into squares, keep in an airtight tin for 24 hours before serving.
Parkin is lovely, my mum bakes it from time to time. When she asks if I want any, I always say I have parkin space.
Yep, it's being served up at my local pub at their Guy Fawkes night bonfire and firework display on Monday November 5th. Come along and let him try some. Entrance is free to the display , however you need to pay for the food and drink. Starts at 5.30pm.
Yeah my mum bakes Parkin, yummy sticky ginger cake : )
I live in the north of the UK and we never had ginger bread or ginger cake it was always called parkin.
my mum used to make it for bonfire night, she would cut it into squares, we would eat it like cake

Why can't i use firefox, instead of IE, to manage my groups?

I am unable to log into my groups using firefox, as yahoo will not recognize my passsword. I am thus forced to use IE, which I never use, so it is a BIG inconvience to be forced to use IE - like I need to upgrade and download all the security patches,etc......

i can login into groups, i don't think your prob lies with firefox. firefox send the same POST DATA as IE, so the password will be the same whether you use IE or MF. maybe the prob is your cookies.

Yahoo! Mail beta is a garbled mess using IE 6.0. What's the problem?

This started several days ago. Yahoo! Mail looks and works fine in Mozilla Firefox. I don't believe this is related to the notice about IE 7.0 incompatibility issues since I'm using IE 6.0.

I couldn't find a place to upgrade my toolbar - just in case that was the problem.

I suggest that you do not jettison IE but maybe use it less when you plan to look around your emails.

I don't know for sure, but she's a total Babe!!

Parvati is the name of the Hindu Love Goddess!!!
I'm sorry, I don't know.
To look at her, I would guess her to be white. Why don't you go on the Survivor website and look it up. They have loads of info on all the contestants there.
Pavarti is a white girl :)

Parvati Shallow grew up the eldest of three siblings on a commune in Vero Beach, Florida. She and her family moved to Atlanta when she was 11 years old. Having studied martial arts since her youth, she currently works as a female boxer and cocktail waitress. She previously worked as a model, bartender and in public relations.

Striking out on her own when she was 17 years old, Shallow put herself through college, attending the University of Georgia where she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in journalism with a minor in French. While in college, she was an active member of the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority.

Shallow enjoys boxing, running, hiking, volleyball, yoga, skiing, softball, dancing and swimming (she was on her high school swim team all four years). She loves the outdoors and gets "super cranky" if she can't play outside in the sun on a daily basis. She is most proud of being a female boxer for Perfect 10 Model Boxing.

Shallow currently resides in West Hollywood, California. Her birth date is September 21, 1982
I have a funny feeling that you are correct. Nothinging in her bio talks about ethnicity while her name Pavarti Shallow screams ethnic origins. Shollow appears to be Gaelic. Pavarti could have been taken from the Harry Potter books, however. Still your thought has merit.

this is just one of the security things that firefox offers it can be easily correct by going under the option menu then clicking security
If you wish, the first time that window pops up, you can click the "x" in the window that says "Don't show me this message again." You can also go to Firefox Tools, Options, Security, Warnings, Settings, then select or deselect the types of messages you want to see
There are people who want to know this information and others do not. The next time it pops up click the do not show info box and then o.k.

Sometimes I have one IE window on yahoo answers for e.g, then another window open for my email. There is no problem as such, onmly that is very annoying. What canI do to stop this from happening?

How can I stop multiple IE windows from opening on their own?web browser

There are a couple of things.

Get SpyBot Search %26amp; Destroy from Download.com and give your computer a clean sweep. Then get Ad-aware from Download.com.

Then get FireFox.com from Mozilla.com. This is a replacement browser that is more resistant to popups. But some websites will only work with Internet Explorer, so you aren't done with that yet.

I use FireFox for all basic browsing, and when I access Yahoo Answers. If I ever get a popup, I immedately close all windows and run both Ad-aware and SpyBot. This very rarely happens to me, but might when I am doing a google search and hit a BOGUS website.

Go to Windows or Microsoft Update and get all available updates. If that doesn't work, I suggest you upgrade to Internet Explorer 7 RC 1. IE 7 is a much better browser than IE 6. I have been using IE 7 since it was IE 7 Beta 2, then updated to IE 7 Beta 3, and now have updated to IE 7 RC 1, and haven't had any problems. I will post the download link for Internet Explorer 7 in case you are interested. If for some reason you don't like it you can go to Add or Remove programs and uninstall it and you will automatically be reverted back to IE6.

What i probably do is update all your antivirus software and go to http://www.spybot.com/index2.html download the free software really great little program it will catch all the spywares on your computer. Once u download go ahead download the updates for it and then what will do is shutdown your pc and go to safe mode. Reason is when on safemode only the system boot goes ON not any other programs only program that boots the PC .exe This is how u go to safe mode while booting up press on f8 couple of time till you see a DOS asking you how do you want to boot up go ahead and choose safemode. Once your on safemode go ahead and do your scanning do your antivirus first then spybot.. You'll see alot of spyware im sure coz it actually compromise already your Internet Explorer. Once done scanning make sure u delete all the spywares found or fix problem on spybot and go ahead and reboot normally. Once reboot go ahead and go to your Internet settings put everything in default setting and shut it down and turn it back up again. Your spybot search and destroy program will monitor everything that goes on your pc it wil ask you if u want it to access your registry..if you don't know the program always click NO! hope this help you alittle. :)

Probably a really dumb question-I've said it so no one else has to, thanks-but I never use IE, ever. I can't even access my school's site on it. Can I just unistall it? Is that even possible? Would that shut my computer down? I have Time Warner/Road Runner, not aol but someone told me that microsoft pre-installs IE on every computer. Thank you for your help.

Since I use firefox anyway, can I unistall IE?windows installer

Yes, you can uninstall IE:

Go to control Panel %26gt; add/remove programs %26gt; Add/Remove Windows components and uncheck the box next to IE. then click OK.

That being said, it's probably not a good idea. While I too am a Firefox-only user I occasionally need IE for certain sites that use Active-X controls which are exclusive to IE (For example, many online-university oriented websites use IE plug-ins like MatLab).

Since I use firefox anyway, can I unistall IE?microsoft vista internet explorer

I wouldn't get rid of IE, you always need more than one browser. In case something is not working, you can try using different browsers to make something work.
Don't do...Bill Gates will know..he always knows.
Do not do that, you will still need internet explorer for other reasons such as not all sites support firefox.
Microsoft says not to:

... to ensure the functionality of programs and operating system functions that rely on it.

Why do you think Bill Gates had so much difficulty with the government? :)

But it's NOT a stupid question!
I work on tons of computers, installing Firefox and educating folk.

so, I remove the desktop icon. But, just leave it there, and don't use it.
I don't know what system you have a Mac or PC, but I have a Mac and I deleted mine. I have once or twice regretted it though because sometimes it is good to have it, some websites believe it or not just work a bit better on that antique thing. The problem for Mac users is that you can't download another copy anymore, Microsoft stopped making copies for Macs. So if you have a Mac and you can ever possibly foresee and time when you could possibly want to use it, I wouldn't. and no i don't think it would mess up/ shut down your computer to uninstall it.
the thing is there are still some websites that don't work very well with firefox. so i would not recommend it.
That's actually a very good question. If you have the space, why not keep IE? While using Firefox, you may have come across a site that was not compatible with that browser. Not all are, and in those cases you'll need IE. So, I'd suggest keeping it just in case. If you do decide to uninstall, just go to %26lt;start%26gt;%26lt;control panel%26gt; and then %26lt;add/remove programs%26gt; in Windows XP.

Several icons disappeared-volume control, IE etc?

I have in the tray an icon for windows automatic updates. I keep autamatic updates disabled, because it causes me problems. Last night after shutting down the computer, a message appeared, saying don't touch anything, windows downloads, 1 0f 250 (roughly). Next day I found many bad things as a result of this download: volume control icon disappeared and could not be added again from control pannel. IE icons diappeared from all places, but I could restore it to desktop. Windows updates icon disappeared and could not restore it, but when I could locate the program, I found that it was configured to check updated every night automaticly. I also lost 3 solitaire games, not only their icons.

There are other things also. I think the downloads made were related to service pak 2. Any help??

As far as the Volume, go to Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Devices, and check in the Place Icon in System Tray box.

To get your games back, open My Computer, go to the C drive, Click WINDOWS, (while doing this, if it says you need to Show the Contents of this Folder, go ahead and click it), then open System32. All the standard games are in this folder. When you find each one, be sure to create a shortcut of them to your desktop. DO NOT MAKE A COPY OR MOVE THE FILES. Just a shortcut.

If you want to put them back on your Start Menu, open My Computer, C drive, Documents and Settings, All Users, Start Menu, Programs, Games, and drag the shortcuts on your desktop into the folder.

This should do the trick.

How do I permanently remove IE (Internet Explorer) from Windows XP SP2?

I use Avant Browser, so I have no need for IE. Previously, I replaced the iexplore.exe program file with an empty text file by the same name, and that worked great. Lately, it seems that Microsoft patched the OS to automatically replace the iexplore file. FWIW, I want to do this to force some apps (like Yahoo! Music Engine, MSN Messenger, and Microsoft Office) to use my default browser and not IE.

How do I permanently remove IE (Internet Explorer) from Windows XP SP2?windows media center

Unfortunately, there isn't an easy way to uninstall IE. IE is buried deep into the core of Windows.

I know getting rid of IE seems like a good idea, it actually isn't. There are some sites that will ONLY work with IE, such as update.windows.com, which is very useful, if you use Windows.

I use Firefox, and have no use for IE either, except the rare occasions. What I have done is removed the link to it off the desktop (right-click on the desktop %26gt; PROPERTIES %26gt; DESKTOP %26gt; CUSTOMIZE DESKTOP %26gt; and uncheck INTERNET EXPLORER). Also, you can be sure to remove IE from the quick launch bar in the lower right and the program menu by right clicking on it and removing.

For the few occasions that I need IE, I have an extension in Firefox that I can tell to open up IE automatically for certain sites.

The only way it appears is if I minimize IE. This started yesterday and I have no clue why. What do I need to do to fix this?

I hope your IE is in Full screen mode so click on f11 to get back to normal screen
WTF?!? who in their right mind would use IE?

How can I get rid of Internet Explorer (IE) on Windows XP?

Help, whenever I am running a windows program (office, wmp, even realplayer) and I want to follow a link they open IE 7, when I want to use Firefox, my default browser.

What I know:

I know that I can individually select some programs to run firefox as a default. I know some people insert code or mess with the registry, but sadly I'm not that advanced.

The problem,

Is that when I use Netzero to log on it resets to ie 7, or for example when I want to find clip art on word it opens ie 7.

Comments are welcome, but answers will be greatly appreciated.

How can I get rid of Internet Explorer (IE) on Windows XP?windows explorer

Continue to use FireFox as your primary browser. If you have no problems with Internet Explorer and popups, then quit using it. But I would uninstall IE7 and go back to IE6. Visit my answer at http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?... for more details.

You see, you MUST have Internet Explorer with WIndows XP. It's a part of the system. It is the only thing that you have that really runs ActiveX, so some websites won't work without it. You also can't get further Windows Upates without it.

You should have an anti-spyware solution on your computer. I recommend that you go to http://www.download.com and get AD-AWARE and SpyBot Search %26amp; Destory. Install, run, update and scan your computer with both programs.

These are cleanup tools. Ad-aware cleans files, and SpyBot cleans the registry

Good luck and Happy Computing!

Maybe you're inprocess of installing something and need to download from M$, normally they'll temporaly chang the home page to M$ and change it back after installation but if there is a bug in between, you go bad luck.

Try uninstall/install some of your recent software and change the home page again.
This is the only thing I can suggest:

On your browser go to Tools%26gt;Internet Options

Go to Delete%26gt; Delete Cookies

Once the cookies are deleted,

Go back to Internet Options

Type in the open box the address you want http://www.yahoo.com

Push OK button on the bottom
I only have one question. Who is your internet service provider? I might have an answer for you if I knew which company it is. Some preset certain ones into you so you can't be online without going to them first.
hi ,you go to start menu and click into control panel ,then choose Internet option,in the general tab there is a box for a www. address, put the address you wish for home page ,then click apply and then click ok ,this works for me .
While you are on the Yahoo page, click tools, then internet options, and where it says home page, click use current.
It sounds like you've been Hijacked with a virus. I recommend getting a good anti-spyware program to scan your computer. In example AVG is pretty good. Some other good free anti spyware programs are Ad-Aware SE Personal, Avast Antivirus, Ewido Security Suite, CWS Shredder, Spysubtract. You are going to also probably need to download Hijackthis. Please be careful with Hijackthis, it will generate a log for you of all the program that you are currently using and your homepages, etc..., I suggest you scan and save a log and going to one of the google or yahoo forums and posting up your Hijackthis Log in order so that they can give you direction on what to delete. You can mess up your computer if you delete the wrong things. You can find most of these programs on www.download.com or do a internet search for them. Good luck.
I suggest that you try to carryout system restore to a day previous to the day when there was no such problems. The problem is likely to be solved. Then,You insatll a standard antivirus soft ware such as Norton, AVG , Avast ( free antivirus software and Ad-aware, Ewido ( free spyware removers). You can download free softwares at

One thing you can do is put firfox as your default browser. Right now I am using a computer that has had the same problems as you are having. If you e-mail me, i will send you detailed screenshots of the programs and how to use them.

I started using foxfire because of too many viruses on ie...?

But are there things you can do on IE that you can't do on foxfire? I can't find IE now that I started using foxfire, but I keep getting pop-ups from IE that seem to be virus related links (you know the ones) and a little box that says "IE is not you current provider (?), would you like to make it?"

I started using foxfire because of too many viruses on ie...?windows mobile

You can do pretty much everything on Firefox that you can do on Internet Explorer, and better.

Set Firefox as your default browser, and set your home page in the same fashion as you do with IE.

Go to the Tools/options area and block all pop-ups. Firefox is excellent for that. Also, set your 'save history' to zero days and delete ALL of your cookies on the same options election so that any popups you ARE getting don't come back tomorrow.

By the way, go to www.grisoft.com and download AVG Free edition for virus control. It is excellent and user friendly with automatic free updates and automatic scheduling that you can modify and set up as you wish.

Hello there bigmamma,

Try these steps and you should be just about touchless.

Popups:

You might have been infected with some sort of tracking cookie that is causing you to get Popups.

Spy ware:

You might have clicked YES to something while on a web site, or entered your login info.

Scanning your system:

You can surf just about anywhere and watch this program do it's job.

The you need a good anti-virus.

If you have AVG, get rid of it and use something else. Although AVG is free (so are many others) it has

it's problems and sometimes (more times then normal) reports false positives.

If you use Norton (Symantec) You need to get rid of that also. It isn't nothing but a resource hog and causes

problems that takes for ever to try and troubleshoot. Also, Norton has a removal tool in order for anyone to

remove it from their system (I say this is bad practice for ANYONE - the removal should have been included).

How do I stop Windows IE pages from switching around automatically ?

I run XP and use IE explorer, and it has this very annoying feature. I run several IE explorer pages at once, so I can click on something in one page, then switch to another to use while the new page loads. However, Windows just decides which page I want to see and switches pages automatically on me as they load, often times causing me to click the wrong link as the new page just jumps up suddenly without warning. How do I turn this feature off, so I can decide when I want to switch back to the new loaded page instead of it happening automatically?

You should try IE 7 - it has tabbed browsing so that you can open as many windows as you want and only have one window open on the toolbar. You can open webpages and stay on the current page without having to worry about the computer switching pages on you.

I have read many people have the same exact condition, and it seems as though microsoft is ignoring it.I don't know if this HUNGAPP is a virus, condition of the mndump as the secondary detail along with exe txt when the freeze-up occures.Every person in the query pages has the same problem. Also one thing I have also noticed,is that 'you are froze, period' the full screen box hit in center on the top right of the ie home page goes blank.you can wait hours and you are forced to close and risk loseing valuble text.I am a writer and my personal best is in cyberspace,as i am not the type of writer who can pound out the same story twice.when the freeze happened when I brought up another ie homepage,to find some info I needed, and ALL pages, even ones that were NOT frozen were deleeted enen though I minimized it and only had the one page that was frozen....even the page i was writing on,deleted with the frozen page. Why has microsoft not come up with a patch for it?I was surprisedAllhadsameprblm

"Which one should I try? "TRN! (ThinkRightNow.com)" or Self-hypnosis/Subliminal messa

I am not sure if Self-hypnosis and Subliminal messaging on audio are the same thing.. but they are certainly very similar. Read this about a Self-hypnosis CD: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/custome...

and this one on a Subliminal messaging (NLP) CD using brainwave technology and affirmations that areNOT audile to the human ear...yet still get transmitted: http://www.amazon.com/Overcome-Sublimina...

I think the brainwave technology is just supposed to relax you....deeply. The same thing seems to occur from what I can tell by the review on the first CD of self-hypnosis. The thing is that..well..if you can't hear anything with subliminal messaging..how is it supposed to work? Even if you're hypnotized.. or "deeply relaxe

"Which one should I try? "TRN! (ThinkRightNow.com)" or Self-hypnosis/Subliminal message CD's?microsoft flight simulator

Alright, well for starters, if you're just looking for something to relax you, any of the stuff you listed above will be just as effective as if you listened to one of those nature sounds CDs or your favorite slow calming music. At least as far as I know, studies have not shown subliminal messaging or self-hypnosis CDs to be very effective at much else (such as helping you memorize information or making you magically live a stress-free life or gain loads of self-confidence). So, really, you can try any of the techniques you listed, or you can just get some light rock or Kenny G or whatever floats your boat and kick back.

Also, the subliminal messaging theoretically works by squeezing messages or images into normal media in a quick or quiet way that is not immediately interpreted by your brain. There was a case a long time ago in which an already spooky video game was released with subliminal images in it. Even though many gamers were not so freaked out by the game, they later reported seeing awful things in their sleep - one common theme being a mutilated cat. Subliminal messaging used to be used in advertising (fairly unsuccessfully) and as a method for personal transformation (people thought they could learn more or become a better person if they listened to certain tapes - waste of money). You should investigate it more if you are interested. It is quite fascinating.

GetAttribute(), getAttribute('id') not working in internet explorer (ie)?
